About Us

SUMUN hosts weekly club meetings, workshops, guest speakers and other events on and off campus. Students from all majors are welcome to join us and learn more about the club and what we have to offer.

Model UN

We attend at least 2 Model United Nations conferences per year, with all expenses paid by and all logistics handled by the club. Students looking to attend the conferences are expected to attend our weekly club meetings, as well as our preparation sessions.

Club Meetings

We meet every Tuesday in Sawyer 132 from 1 to 2 pm. All Suffolk University students are welcome to join us. It is not necessary to attend a conference or event to be part of our club meetings, so feel free to stop by, meet new people and check out what SUMUN is all about.

Workshops

We host preparatory workshops for the students attending the conferences. Some of these workshops include bringing experts in the field, such as our Public Speaking workshop, and other involve a more dynamic environment where students can prepare their opening speeches and position papers in a friendly environment.

Guest Speakers

We regularly invite guest speakers to come talk to us about current global issues. Students benefit from these events by learning from an expert in the field, networking and being able to ask questions about the topic.

Debates

We host debates about current global issues during our club meetings. Students select a topic of their choice, do research and prepare for the discussion. During our meetings we hold debates, moderated by the elected Chair Person. Students learn by listening to their peers' arguments, defending their positions and trying to reach a solution through negoatiations. These events are also part of the preparation for Model UN conferences.

Off-Campus Events

SUMUN cooridnates off campus events for students that are part of the club. Some of these events involve volunteering, while others are mostly social. None of these events are mandatory, but they are a good way to improve your skills, meet new people and potentially build your resume.
